Three former Deering High School baseball coaches have been indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury, for furnishing a place for minors to consume liquor.
Frank Watson, Chris Grant and Mike D'Andrea Jr. all face misdemeanor charges for their role in hosting a victory party after Deering's state baseball championship on June 21.
Kimberly Watson, Frank Watson's wife, also was indicted on a furnishing charge.
Frank Watson was a paid varsity assistant for the team, Grant was a volunteer varsity assistant, and D'Andrea was paid to coach the freshman team. All three were dismissed from the program Aug. 4 by Deering Principal Ken Kunin and Superintendent Jeanne Whynot-Vickers, in the midst of a school investigation of the victory party.
The misdemeanor charges carry a maximum of one year in jail.
Head baseball and girls' basketball coach Mike D'Andrea, the father of the former freshman baseball coach, resigned Aug. 12, but will stay on as a physical education teacher at Deering. He has said he was not involved in the party, and he was not indicted in the case.
The coaches who have been indicted will be scheduled to appear for arraignments in the coming weeks.
