WESTBROOK -- During a two-day sweep that began Monday, city police arrested 15 people on outstanding warrants.

Lt. Mike Nugent said officers, who finished the operation Tuesday night, used a federal grant to hire additional officers, who rounded up as many people as they could.

The people lived in Westbrook and several neighboring communities.

Nugent said the department worked from a list of more than 300 people who were on file as having outstanding arrest warrants against them - some dating as far back as the early 1990s.

The charges ranged from misdemeanor offenses such as failure to pay fines to more serious crimes such as assault.

Nugent said the operation was funded with a $5,500 grant from the United States Marshall's Service.
