Gov. John Baldacci visited Washburn & Doughty Associates in East Boothbay today to celebrate the company's comeback from a destructive fire in July.
He praised the boat builder as workers set the keel for a new a boat that had been ordered before the fire two months ago. Washburn & Doughty brought people back to work on Monday.
"We celebrate today a remarkable achievement," said Governor Baldacci. "These incredibly committed individuals are the reason for Washburn & Doughty's success.... They have taken what was a complete loss and are back to making the high quality boats."
Several agencies in the Baldacci administration, including the departments of Labor, Environmental Protection and Economic and Community Development, sent officials to East Boothbay after the fire to help in recovery and redevelopment efforts.
