WINDHAM -- Game wardens, police, and firefighters rushed to Little Sebago Lake late Wednesday afternoon fearing the worst. They had received a report of a pickup truck sinking into the lake.

When they arrived, the truck's driver and his wife were on shore, thankful that they were safe.

Windham Fire Chief Charles Hammond said the truck accelerated into the lake after the driver -- the man -- experienced some type of medical emergency. The couple, who are from New Hampshire, escaped by swimming out through the truck's windows.

Hammond said the couple had driven to a state boat launch off Anglers Road to do some sightseeing when the incident took place. Hammond would not release their names.
