Maine utilities say high winds caused hundreds of power outages in the state, including roughly 1,000 in the Portland area alone.
Central Maine Power Co. said today about 2,000 customers were without service due to the wind. Outside of the Portland area, service interruptions are scattered, with the Bridgton, Rockland and Augusta areas among those affected.
Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. says 686 customers were affected, with the hardest-hit areas including the Corinth, Garland, and Exeter areas, Mount Desert Island and Deer Isle.
The National Weather Service says wind would gust up to 45 mph before dying down later in the day.
