Maine calm amid stock market turmoil

By Beth Quimby Portland Press Herald Staff Writer September 15, 2008 01:43 PM

Although the stock market took a dive this morning, Mainers appear to be keeping calm following a tumultuous weekend on Wall Street.

Maine stockbrokers report fielding few if any calls today from clients worried about the stock market, which dropped more than 250 points by noon following a weekend of turmoil that included the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers, the take over of Merrill Lynch by the Bank of America and renewed concerns about insurance company American International Group's financial health.

They said most investors are sitting tight.

" I have not gotten single phone call today," said Jeffrey Bogue of Bogue Asset Management, a Wells financial planning firm.
