AUBURN $ Authorities were searching late Monday night for the operator of a dump truck that ran over two Auburn police cruisers after officers attempted to pull the driver over for allegedly stealing concrete.
A dispatcher for the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Department said the dump truck operator escaped, then was located a short while later in the town of Poland, where a woman reported that he ran over two cars in her driveway.
According to police, the driver was caught leaving Superior Concrete in Auburn with a load of concrete around 9 p.m. When officers tried to pull him over, he plowed their cruisers.
Shots were fired, police said, but the truck was not stopped.
A full-scale search of an area off Hinds Road in Poland was taking place late Monday. State police dogs were assisting with the search.
