AUGUSTA -- The University of Maine at Augusta plans to usher in a new school year at a campus convocation on Sunday, Oct. 19.
UMA will formally install Allyson Hughes Handley as campus president at the event. Handley has been UMA's president since March.
The event will also feature an address by Paul Mayewski, director of the Climate Change Institute at the University of Maine. Mayewski has led more than 45 expeditions to remote locations -- including Antarctica, the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau -- to collect snow and ice core samples to evaluate the effect of climate change.
The address ties into UMA's chosen theme for the 2008-09 academic year: environmental sustainability.
