Mainer hits gridiron with prosthetic legs

By The Associated Press wire report September 17, 2008 12:00 PM

SOUTH HIRAM -- A Maine teen who lost both legs when he was 2 years old isn't letting the disability stop him from playing varsity football.

Ed Warren has been playing since the fourth grade using prosthetic legs and the high school senior is now a member of Sacopee Valley High School's team.

Doctors amputated both of Warren's legs below the knees at age 2 because of birth defects. He credits his mother for pushing him to play.

Sacopee fans had better get used to him. Warren, who wears No. 42, also plans to play basketball and baseball later this year.
