PORTLAND -- A plane at the Portland International Jetport had to be evacuated because of reported smoke in the cockpit - before the plane left the ground.

United Airlines Express Flight 7051 was scheduled to depart at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday when an alarm went off in the cockpit. Passengers quickly disembarked at the gate without the need for emergency slides.

Airport Director Paul Bradbury says firefighters responded as it standard procedure, but he says there was no fire. The plane eventually left after a mechanic fixed the problem.
