KITTERY # A welder at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard had to be transported to a local hospital Wednesday afternoon after he was electrocuted while doing an overhaul of a submarine.

Debbie White, shipyard spokeswoman, said the worker had been assigned to the overhaul of the USS Greenville when he received what appeared to be a minor electrical shock around 4:30.

The worker, whose name was not released, was transported by a shipyard ambulance to Portsmouth Regional Hospital. White said he was released by doctors after being examined.
