SHAWMUT - Police responding to several burglaries in the same neighborhood had one suspect in custody and were closing in on the other Friday night.
Deputy Chief Steve Trahan said that a State Police trooper with a dog tracked down Paul Beister, 19, of New Jersey and charged him with burglary, and posssible pending charges. Beister's partner in the burglaries on the west side of U.S. Route 201 fled north into the woods, Trahan said.
Trahan said that State Police had five or six tracking dogs chasing the other suspect. There is only about a mile between where he fled north and Route 137 in Fairfield Center, he said.
The men had kicked in a door at 3 Somerset Avenue and stolen a loaded handgun, Trahan said. They are suspects in other early-afternoon burglaries on Somerset Avenue, Scott Avenue and Church Street, he said.
