7:50 p.m.

WESTBROOK -- Two employees of a pool supply company were taken to the hospital tonight after a chemical spill.

Officials said at least four separate chemicals spilled around 5:45 p.m. inside the Namco building at 100 Larrabee Road. The two employees, who were apparently the only people in the business at the time, experienced breathing difficulty and were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

John True, coordinator of the Presumpscot Valley Hazardous Materials Unit, said officials have sealed the building and are working with chemists to establish a plan for eliminating vapors and cleaning up the spilled materials.

True was not sure how the accident happened. He said the area around the business was safe, but members of his unit would continue to monitor the air outside the business.

The hazmat unit comprises emergency responders from Westbrook, Gorham, Windham, Scarborough and Standish.

The names and conditions of the victims have not been released.
