A 20-year old man from Jefferson died in an accident late Saturday night in Jefferson.

Members of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to the scene of an accident involving a vehicle hitting a pedestrian at 11:58 p.m.

Rescue personnel confirmed the man was dead when they arrived at the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed the man was lying in the roadway and the vehicle was unable to avoid him.

Assisting the sheriff's department were the Jefferson Fire Department, Jefferson Rescue and the Maine State Police accident-reconstruction team.

The accident is under investigation and the name of the victim has not been released.
