WESTBROOK -- The city council tonight will take a final vote on a plan with a waste hauler that will give residents free curbside recycling next year.
The 20-year agreement calls for Casella Waste Systems to provide free recycling services in exchange for the city's agreement to make infrastructure improvements that would facilitate Casella's plans to build a facility on County Road. The facility would process demolition materials taken from buildings. Improvements include adding a turning lane on County Road.
Before the vote tonight, the council plans to hold an open forum on the issue beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Public Safety Building at 570 Main St.
