Diocese names late priest's replacement

By Matthew Stone Kennebec Journal Staff Writer September 22, 2008 09:25 AM

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland has named a new administrator for two northern Maine parishes last overseen by the Rev. James P. Robichaud, who committed suicide in June.

The diocese has appointed the Rev. Mark Nolette as administrator of Our Lady of the Snows Parish of Dexter, Dover-Foxcroft and Milo and St. Agnes Parish of Pittsfield.

Nolette, 49, is an Arizona native ordained as a priest in 1987. He is a former Vice Chancellor of the Portland diocese. His previous assignments include St. Augustine Church in Augusta and Sacred Heart/St. Dominic Parish in Portland.

Robichaud, an Augusta native, was found in his Dover-Foxcroft rectory in June a day after the diocese suspended him pending an investigation into an allegation he sexually abused a girl in 1979.
