IN THE WEATHER:

The first full day of fall will act just like fall in Maine. Clear, cool air. Bright sun with mostly blue skies. Temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. There is a storm coming, but it won't be here until later in the week. So don't worry about it. Enjoy the weather while you can.
From Bill in Rockland: This morning has started off with a temperature of 40 degrees under very clear and calm (so far) skies. Orion, Rigel, and Sirius are still plainly visible just to the south of overhead at 5:55 and the moon is on the wane. It's pretty nippy.
From Shawn in Yarmouth: It is 43 degrees here this morning in Yarmouth so we missed the frost again. There is no wind and it appears that the sky is cloudy, but it is really too dark to tell. I don't have a window in the house where I can see the moon, which would be my clue. A great day for soccer!
From James in Cape Elizabeth: Fall has arrived! At 6:00 I showed 42 degrees on the 'ole thermometer. Clear skies with bright light on the eastern horizon. Time to seriously think about bringing plants inside! Have a great day all!
From Mark in Brunswick: No frost here last night, and it looks like we have a beautiful fall day in store with bright sunny skies overhead and 42 degrees.
ON THE ROAD:
• THE I-295 SOUTHBOUND OFF-RAMP IN YARMOUTH is closed today as Maine Department of Transportation will repair the culvert there (Exit 17). The ramp will be closed until 6 p.m. tonight. Drivers are advised to take the Exit 20, Desert Road off-ramp in Freeport, instead.•PART OF ROUTE 125 IN DURHAM - CLOSED TODAY as the state works to replace culverts damaged in last month's storms. The work will start at 7 a.m. today, which will result in traffic detouring around the Pinkham Brook section. The state hopes to reopen that section on Thursday.
ON THE OCEAN:

High tide in Portland: 6:11 a.m. and 6:28 p.m. Low tide: 12:06 p.m.

WATERVILLE -- Police have arrested a man who is an alleged member of the Bloods gang, who they say was found to have a "substantial amount" of crack cocaine in his possession.

Police said they went to the home of Tyrell Gorham, 23, of Elm Street (photo at right) on Sunday on a search warrant and found a gram of crack cocaine in Gorham's pocket. Police say they searched Gorham's residence and found another 28 grams of the drug - a street value of $3,000.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, a Class A felony.
Gorham is originally from Jamaica Queens, N.Y., and claims to be a member of the Bloods street gang.
"Since July of 2006, the Waterville Police Department has arrested or summonsed Gorham 18 times, for crimes ranging from driving offenses to possession of narcotics, to terrorizing and assault. To say that we characterize him as a danger to our community would be an understatement," said Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey.
A check of Gorham's criminal record also shows arrests in New York for crimes of forgery and weapons possession.
His is in the Kennebec County Jail, unable to post the $200,000 bail set against him. His court date is scheduled for Dec. 9. Also arrested with Gorham was Nicholas Powell, 19, of Benton who was in the apartment at the time of the raid with an outstanding arrest. He, too, is at the jail, unable to make bail.

AUGUSTA -- The Maine Human Rights Commission sided with a fired Oakland police officer Monday, finding reasonable grounds to believe that the town unlawfully discriminated against him.
The commission voted 4-0 to support a finding by its investigator that former Sgt. James Hamilton, of Waterville, was a victim of disabilty discrimination and retaliation when Oakland officials denied his request to extend his medical leave.
The vote followed oral presentations Monday by lawyers both for the Town of Oakland and for Hamilton.

AUGUSTA -- The state Labor Department says Maine's minimum wage will increase by a quarter an hour to $7.25 as of Oct. 1.

The increase from $7 will be the first in a two-step increase that will lift Maine's minimum wage to $7.50 per hour in October 2009. It is the third minimum wage increase signed into law by Gov. John Baldacci.
The Labor Department says about 26,000 Maine workers have earnings at or below the minimum wage. Some minimum wage earners are teens employed at their first jobs, but most are adult workers.
Some employers are exempt from paying the minimum wage. (AP)
