State officials have banned shellfish harvesting along the entire Maine coast because of concerns about bacterial runoff from the heavy rains of recent days.
The Department of Marine Resources' ban covers, clams, quahogs, mussels and oysters from New Hampshire to Canada.
The closure became effective Saturday evening as a pre-emptive measure. (AP)

AUGUSTA -- State court offices are closed to the public until noon Monday through Friday as part of fall administrative week in which court personnel catch up on paperwork during the morning.
The shortened hours affect district and superior courts throughout the state, as well as the state supreme court.

PORTLAND -- The Carnival Victory, a Carnival Cruise Line ship, will visit Portland for the final time this year.
Carrying 2,758 passengers, the Carnival Victory began its seven day sail in New York City and will leave Portland at the end of the day for Saint John, New Brunswick. With a length of 893 feet and weight of 101,509 tons, the boat carries a crew of 1,100.
The Carnival Victory is scheduled to arrive at 8 a.m. and depart at 6 p.m.

SCARBOROUGH -- A workshop on energy conservation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the high school cafeteria.
Hosted by Sen. Philip Bartlett (D-Gorham), the workshop will feature representatives from the Maine State Housing Authority, Efficiency Maine, Scarborough Fire Department, PROP, banks and oil dealers.

Maine Drug Enforcement Agency officers have arrested 17 local people in the last couple of weeks for trafficking in OxyContin, cocaine, methadone and marijuana, according to division Cmdr. Darrell Crandall late last week.
