Wayne honors town's most senior

By Matthew Stone Kennebec Journal Staff Writer October 03, 2008 11:46 AM

WAYNE -- Marguerite "Mike" Holbrook has a secret to her longevity. The 99-year-old -- who will turn 100 on Dec. 20 -- attributes reaching her old age to "never giving up" and drinking chocolate milk daily.

Holbrook, Wayne's oldest resident, will receive the Wayne Cane Sunday following the a worship service at the Wayne Community Church.

For Wayne, the occasion marks the first time the town has awarded the cane to its oldest citizen. The Wayne Cane is a substitute for the Boston Post Cane other towns award to their oldest citizens.
