TROY - A Detroit man faces charges including vehicular manslaughter following a one-vehicle accident that killed one of his companions early Sunday morning on Route 220.
Scott Goulette, 40, of Detroit died at the scene, according to State Police Trooper Tom Welch. Rescue personnel found Goulette inside the 1987 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Charles Erickson Jr., 30, of Detroit.
Both Erickson and another passenger, 41-year-old Randy Kitchin of Detroit, made it out of the truck with minor injuries, Welch said.
Erickson, arraigned Monday in Waldo County Superior Court, is be held at Waldo County Jail in Belfast on $50,000 cash or $250,000 surety bail. He is charged with vehicular manslaughter, OUI and operating beyond license restrictions.
Police and rescue personnel responded to the call at 1:50 a.m.
Welch said his report will indicate that none of the men was wearing a seat belt. Goulette was sitting in the middle, and probably hit the inside of the roof when the truck rolled over, Welch said.
Erickson was driving north on 220 when his pickup veered right into the ditch, Welch said. He overcorrected, went back and forth from the road to the ditch and the truck rolled over onto its roof, Welch said.
