OAKLAND -- Hannah Thornberg scored with 17:18 left in the first half and that goal stood up as Messalonskee defeated Skowhegan, 1-0, in Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A field hockey action Tuesday afternoon.
Skowhegan (12-1) had won 28 consecutive games since losing to Mt. Blue in the second game of last season. Messalonskee improved to 10-1 with the win.
Messalonskee had 15 shots on goal, compared to six for Skowhegan. Each team had 10 penalty corners.
