SACO - An abandoned multi-unit apartment building burned down early today in a fire that officials consider suspicious.
The fire at 21-23 Deering Ave. was reported at about 1:30 a.m., fire officials said. Because of the condition of the building - which had been abandoned by its owner and boarded up by the city - firefighters did not attempt to enter it.
No other homes in the neighborhood were damaged, officials said, but the apartment building was essentially destroyed.
The state fire marshal's office is investigating the fire, Saco officials said, noting that the building was empty and the power had been disconnected before the fire was reported.
The blaze was a two-alarm fire and Saco firefighters were assisted by crews from Biddeford.
