FARMINGTON # A Eustis woman who had an untreated mental illness when she set fire to a mobile home off of Route 27 last year was given a suspended
sentence Wednesday in Franklin County Superior Court with the condition
she continue counseling and take her medications.
Donna A. Reid, 46, had plead guilty earlier to arson, a Class A felony, and
to a separate misdemeanor charge of assault on her mother. Reid was
intoxicated both times, according to Assistant District Attorney James
Andrews.
Justice Michaela Murphy sentenced Reid to six years, all suspended, with
six years probation. Class A arson carries a maximum sentence of 30 years.
Playing a part in the light sentence was the fact Reid is now the full-time
caregiver of her ailing, aged parents in their home in Eustis and she is being treated for her mental illness.
Reid set fire to the mobile home on April 17, 2007 by burning a pile of books and debris inside the home, Andrew said. The Eustis Fire Department responded but the rented trailer was a total loss.
