CARRABASSETT VALLEY - The annual Upcountry Artists art and craft show will be Saturday and Sunday as part of the Sugarloaf/USA's Homecoming Weekend.
The art show will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. There will be over 60 members showing paintings, photography, fine furniture and other wooden products such as handmade bowls. There will be crafted fabric displays of clothing, quilts and wall hangings, canvas bags and knit items. There will also be floral arrangements and wreaths, handmade soaps, baskets, Ukranian eggs, leather items, jewelry and glass.
This show generates the money Upcountry Artists need to continue their mission of promoting arts in the area. Scholarships are awarded annually to high school seniors to further their education in the arts. Last year's scholarship was awarded to Ashton Ireland, a Mt. Blue High School graduate now enrolled in graphic design at Pratt Institute in New York. The Howard K. Smith Scholarship was awarded to Krista Johnson of Rangeley who is studying studio arts at the University of Southern Maine. Support is also given to Art in the Park in Farmington and to Foothills Arts Center.
