Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's husband made the first of two planned stops in Maine this weekend today, attending a barbecue at the Moosehead Trail Trading Post in Palmyra.
Todd Palin called Maine "a real critical state" and characterized his wife and John McCain as "reformers" who "can point to their record."
The husband of the GOP vice presidential candidate declined to comment on a legislative report in Alaska that suggested Gov. Palin violated state ethics standards.
In addition to today's event in Palmyra, Todd Palin was expected to attend another barbecue on Sunday at Harry's Motor Sports in Presque Isle.
The McCain campaign announced this month that it was putting more resources into Maine, particularly in the state's 2nd Congressional District.
Maine and Nebraska are the only states that split their electoral votes by congressional district.

FREMONT, N.H. - Campaigning in New Hampshire today, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's husband refused to comment on a legislative report in Alaska that found she violated state ethics laws, with his help.
Todd Palin met with snowmobile race fans in Fremont, one day after a legislative report found the governor violated state ethics laws. He'll make an appearance in Palmyra, Maine later today.
Todd Palin would not answer questions about the report, which said Sarah Palin abused her power by trying to have her former brother-in-law fired as a state trooper.
The report also said Todd Palin led the charge, using his extraordinary access to the governor's office to try to get Trooper Mike Wooten fired.
The McCain campaign said the report is politically motivated.
Todd Palin was in the state for the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association's annual grass drag competition. He asked the crowd to vote for McCain and Palin this November. He also signed autographs for fans who know him as a championship snowmobile racer.
