Campaign finance reports filed with the state show that a political action committee backing a proposed casino and resort in Oxford is outspending an opposition PAC by a margin of nearly 18-1.
The Vote Yes on 2 for Maine committee has raised and spent more than $552,000 within the past month, with the entire contribution coming from Olympia Gaming Maine of Las Vegas. That's the company that wants to develop the $150 million project.
The bulk of the money went for TV, radio and newspaper advertising.
The group opposing the project, Casinos NO!, reports raising nearly $78,000 since the end of July and spending more than $31,000. It reports a cash balance of about $47,000.
The biggest contributors were L.L. Bean Chairman Leon Gorman and his wife, Lisa.
