BIDDEFORD -- Correct Building Products is reducing its workforce by a third due to a seasonal downturn in the construction business and difficult economic conditions, officials said.
The company has laid off 25 of its 75 employees in production and office personnel support areas, according to marketing manager Mike Descoteaux.
Correct Building makes composite decking, made from 60 percent recycled hardwood sawdust and 40 percent polypropylene.
"We're seeing a natural drop off due to seasonality; however we are experiencing some cutbacks in orders as a result of uncertainty at the distributor levels," Descoteaux said.
The company has cut its hours and production in response to the changes, but said it is still shipping product for winter orders in anticipation of deck-building season in the spring.
Correct Building was founded in 1999. Last year, its annual revenue was $30 million, with a gross profit margin of 25 percent.
