SEBAGO -- The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department was investigating a shooting in Sebago late Wednesday night on Ledge Road.

Sheriff Mark Dion said a patrol supervisor and deputy went to a home at 31 Ledge Road to investigate what he called an incident of "road rage" that was reported by two other people.

According to Dion, the man who lives in the house confronted the deputies with a gun. The deputies fired on the man, wounding him. The man had to be transported by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Dion said the man, who appeared to be in his early 40s, was conscious when the helicopter arrived.

An investigation is underway, with officials from the Attorney General's Office and Sheriff's Department expected to be at the scene for the rest of the evening.
