A Westbrook man has been charged with impersonating an officer and rape following an incident early Sunday morning.

Police say a woman accompanied a man home and that he told her he was a police officer. He then raped her at about 2:30 a.m., police said.

Police went to the man's house at Abby Commons with a search warrant and arrested the 30-year-old man. He also was charged with violating bail conditions stemming from an earlier domestic violence assault, police said.

The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram does not identify people accused of a sex crime until they have made a court appearance.

Police also are investigating an unrelated report of a rape on Brown Street Saturday.
