"Code Pink" rally reset for this Sunday in Skowhegan

SKOWHEGAN - The "I Miss America" pageant scheduled for Oct. 26 by local members of the national peace organization Code Pink has been rescheduled due to heavy rain this past Sunday.

The new date and time is Sunday, Nov. 2, at noon on the Margaret Chase Smith bridges.

Contestants wearing pink formal gowns will parade in sashes proclaiming their identity as "Miss Used Funds," "Miss Led," and other slogans sure to resonate with a fed-up American public, local Code Pink coordinator Lisa Savage said.

The term Code Pink is a send-up of President George Bush's color-coded homeland security terrorist alerts. Code Pink is a call to wage peace, the group says on its Web site.

Anyone wishing to join the event can contact coordinator Lisa Savage at 643-2356.
