Democrat Chellie Pingree and Republican Charlie Summers, candidates in Maine's 1st Congressional District race, will debate top campaign issues in a live forum sponsored by the Portland Press Herald, WMTW-TV (Channel 8), the Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel.

The hour-long debate is being broadcast on the Web at www.wmtw.com starting at noon and can be viewed on Channel 8 starting at 12:30 p.m.

Questions will be taken via the Internet and from the live audience at the Hannaford Lecture Hall at the University of Southern Maine in Portland. To e-mail questions, go to www.pressherald.com.

Debate topics are expected to range from the economic crisis and taxpayer-funded bailout, which both candidates criticized, to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and federal energy policy, where the candidates differ.
