FARMINGTON -- Opposing sides on referendum questions #1 and #2 will present their arguments for support during a Community Forum Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p. m. at the Fairbanks School Meeting House.

The event is a community service co-sponsored by the Wilton Blueberry Farm in partnership with the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce. The Fairbanks School Meeting House Association has provided the space.

The Meeting House is on Route 4, also known as Fairbanks Road, about three miles north of downtown Farmington.

Question #1 asks voters whether they wish to "reject a new law that changes the method of funding Maine's Dirigo Health Program through charging health insurance companies a fixed fee on paid claims and adding taxes to malt liquor, wine and soft drinks."

Newell Auger, chairman of the "Fed Up With Taxes" coalition, will argue in favor of the "peoples' veto" of the law while Gordon Smith, executive director of the Maine Medical Association and a representative of the "No On One" Campaign, will speak in opposition.

Question # 2 is: "Do you want to allow a certain Maine company to have the only casino in Maine, to be located in Oxford County, if part of the revenue is used to fund specific state programs?"

Dennis Bailey of CasinosNO will speak in opposition to the question and Pat Lamarche will speak in favor.

There will be time provided during each debate for questions and discussion by the audience.

The event is open to the public without charge and refreshments will be served.
