FARMINGTON -- Ryan Beam scored the games only goal as the University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team defeated Thomas College 1-0 in the first round of the North Atlantic Conference tournament on Tuesday.

The Beavers improve to 7-7-0 and advance to play No. 2 Castleton State College (10-8-0) in the semifinals on Saturday. Thomas ends the season at 7-12-0.

Beam scored on a rebound of a direct kick by Andrew Merriken in the 69th minute.
Cony High School graduate Matt Dennett stopped seven shots for UMF, Keegan Curtin made six saves for Thomas.
