NEWPORT -- The Eastern B field hockey final between third-seeded Winslow and top-ranked Nokomis was suspended before the start of the second half with the teams tied at 1. The game will be picked up from same point Wednesday afternoon, weather permitting. The schools' athletic directors have not yet determined a start time.
The first half was filled with action, with both teams earning several scoring chances. Nokomis scored 5 minutes, 44 seconds into the second half when Erin Knight hit a long drive downfiled to Jordin McGinnis, who passed to Sabrina Vaillancourt. Vaillancourt then slid to her right and beat the goalie.
Winslow tied the score with 18:40 left when Katie Irwin sent the ball across the circle to Morgan Stuart, who tapped the ball in on the left post.
Nokomis had two solid shots on penalty corners late in the half, but Winslow goalie Emma Walters robbed Knight both times.
