MATINICUS ISLAND -- The search for a local lobsterman, who has been missing since Monday, continues.

The U.S. Coast Guard said it will search until nightfall today for Chris Whitaker, 24, of Matinicus Island.

Maine Marine Patrol dive teams, local lobstermen and Coast Guard cutter crews have been able to find Whitaker's life jacket, rain slicker and boots, but no sign of Whitaker, who was operating a 21-foot skiff.

A fixed wing jet from the Coast Guard station in Cape Cod is scheduled to fly over the area around 5:30 p.m. tonight.

Officials say they will reassess their search efforts tonight to determine if it should continue on Wednesday.
