Candidates are shaking hands and party volunteers are working phone banks and knocking on doors during the final weekend of campaigning before Election Day.

Both Republican and Democratic party spokeswomen said hundreds of volunteers are talking to supporters this weekend, either on phone or in person, and reminding them to vote on Tuesday. Both parties plan big mobilization efforts on Election Day to get supporters to the polls.

Rep. Tom Allen, D-Maine, who is running for the U.S. Senate, will attend a high school football game in Lisbon Falls this afternoon, knock on doors in Lewiston this afternnon and attend a bean supper in Gray early this evening, then join his wife, Diana, in Lewiston for French Night at an Elks Lodge in Lewiston.

His opponent, incumbent Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, is on a bus tour that will focus on Washington County, with stops this afternoon in Whiting, Machias, Columbia Falls and Milbridge.
