PORTLAND (AP) Democrat Barack Obama has won in Maine, turning back Republican John McCain's efforts to take at least one of the state's four electoral votes.
Obama's win in Maine was based on an analysis of voter interviews, conducted for The Associated Press by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International.
Maine is one of two states that split electoral votes. That meant McCain could have won one electoral vote if he pulled out a victory in the 2nd District, a rural district that is thought to be more conservative.
McCain advertised heavily in the 2nd District and sent his running mate, Sarah Palin, and her husband to northern Maine.
