A repeal of taxes on beer, wine, soda and other drinks is passing by a wide margin, according to early results.
With 28 percent of precincts reporting, Question 1 was passing 63 percent to 37 percent. A group called Fed Up With Taxes, which included the beverage industry and Maine State Chamber of Commerce, led the repeal effort.
On the other side, Health Coverage for Maine, which includes the Maine Medical Association, fought the repeal, saying the change in funding was necessary to support Dirigo Health.
