WAYNE -- More than 80 percent of voters in this town turned out at the polls today, according to unofficial results. Locally, voters weighed in on State Senate and House races and a straw poll to gauge support for expanding a regional public works agreement.
Wayne voters supported returning incumbent Rep. Gary Knight, R-Livermore Falls, to the Statehouse. He beat challenger Peggy Dwyer, a Livermore Democrat, 412-344, earning 54 percent of Wayne's vote.
In the race for State Senate District 18, Wayne gave its support to challenger Ann Woloson, a Belgrade Democrat, giving her 59 percent of town's vote. Incumbent Sen. Walter Gooley, R-Farmington, earned 295 of the town's votes to Woloson's 428 votes.
Wayne residents also supported a straw poll question gauging support for expanding a regional public works arrangement involving Manchester, Readfield, Wayne and the Maranacook Community School District. Wayne voters supported the measure 507-155.
Readfield voters also voted on this question Tuesday.
