Rep. Pat Jones, D-Mount Vernon, appears to be fending off a challenge from fellow Mount Vernon resident Clyde Dyar. With results in from Fayette and Vienna Jones is leading Dyar 609 to 424.
Results were not immediately available from Belgrade, Manchester and Mount Vernon.
Jones, a former public health worker for the state, was vying for a second term in the Statehouse after winning a special election to the seat in November 2007. She took the place of her husband, Deane Jones, after he died from cancer.
Dyar, a self-employed economic development specialist, was seeking a Republican win in the central Maine district.
Belgrade, Fayette, Manchester, Mount Vernon and Vienna are in House District 83.
