SACO -- A vote to consolidate Saco, Old Orchard Beach and Dayton schools into a regional school unit by July 1, 2009 passed in all three towns.

Saco voters approved the consolidation plan with 6,846 votes to 2,844. A total of 9,690 people voted.

Old Orchard Beach also approved the measure, 3,194 votes to 1,700.

Dayton also approved the plan, 807 to 303.

A merger of School Union 7, made up of Saco and Dayton, with the Old Orchard Beach School Department would create RSU 56
