Freeport, Durham and Pownal voters approved a plan Tuesday to merge school departments as required under state law.

The vote was 2,464 to 2,217 in Freeport; 1,680 to 711 in Durham; 648 to 283 in Pownal.

It was one of five proposals considered Tuesday in southern Maine, and 18 voted on across the state.
