Washington Academy wins Class C boys soccer title

HAMPDEN - Milos Gautier scored two goals as the Washington Academy boys soccer team defeated Waynflete 2-1 for the Class C championship Saturday at Hampden Academy.

Gauthier gave the Raiders (17-1) an 1-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game, then gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead with 3:20 left in the half. Josh Bloom scored Waynflete's goal on a penalty kick with 16:09 left after he was pulled down inside the 18-yard box.

Washington Academy won its first state title in boys soccer and is the first Eastern C team to win the state championship since 1986, when Penobscot Valley won the state title. Waynflete (8-8-3) entered the playoffs as the 11th seed from Western C and won four straight games to reach the title game.
