CANAAN -- Firefighters extinguished a fire in a garage connected to a home on Hartland Road at 9:12 p.m. Sunday.

The blaze was started by an electrical malfunction in a vehicle, according to Fire Chief Ray Small. The fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes and the house, although filled with smoke, was not damaged by fire, he said.

"It was a good stop; they still have their home," Small said. Firefighters from Skowhegan and Hartland assisted.

Small did not know the name of the home owner on Monday morning.
