Gas drops below $2 in South Portland

The price of gasoline has dropped below $2 a gallon at several stations in South Portland, among the cheapest prices in the state, according to the Web site < ahref="http://mainegasprices.com">MaineGasPrices.com.

Leading the pack is a 7-Eleven station on Main Street at $1.95 a gallon, followed by an Irving station on Main Street and Broadway ($1.97); an Irving station on Westbrook and Western Avenue ($1.98) and a Mobil station on Main Street and Maine Turnpike Approach Road ($1.98).

Also: At $1.99 a gallon are a Gibbs station on Main Street and Shore Road in Ogunquit and Peaslee's Quick Stop in Jefferson.

The average price today in Maine is $2.22 a gallon, according to the Web site. A month ago it was $3.01 and a year ago it was $3.09.
