University of Maine System trustees are in Farmington today for a second day of regular meetings.
The trustees met Sunday at the University of Maine at Farmington campus to discuss financial aid and fundraising efforts. Today, the board is focusing on the university system's financial situation and student enrollment figures.
In October, University of Maine System Chancellor Richard Pattenaude announced the system would institute a series of cost-cutting measures in anticipation of a tight budget season.
Pattenaude said the university system would regulate building temperature at its Bangor offices; leave some vacant positions unfilled; delay employee merit raises; and limit travel, printing, mailing and employee overtime.
The chancellor asked the presidents of the system's seven campuses to take similar measures.
University of Maine at Augusta President Allyson Hughes Handley warned employees in October to brace for "potential significant cuts in the months and year ahead."
