DETROIT -- Authorities say a firefighter died after collapsing while battling a blaze in the Somerset County town of Detroit.

Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland says firefighters responded to a call at 8 a.m. at a home on River Road.

He says the victim, Michael Snowman of Hartland, was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital and later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center where he died from an apparent heart attack.

McCausland says no one was at home at the time of the fire. The home was a total loss.
