Ecology school picks board president

SACO -- The Ferry Beach Ecology School in Saco has selected Ken Barber as president of its board of directors.

Barber is the assistant vice president for underwriting at UNUM. He has served on the Ferry Beach Ecology School board of directors since 2006.

Barber lives in Cape Elizabeth with his wife and two sons. He is a 1990 graduate of Colby College.

The school also named Marc Lavoie of Windham and Zach Smith of North Berwick to its board of directors.

Ferry Beach Ecology School is operated by Ecology Education Inc., a nonprofit organization that focuses on teaching the science of ecology. Since 1999, the school has educated more than 64,000 children through its residential overnight programs, its coastal campus in Saco and school outreach programs.
