State Police detectives today are continuing their investigation of a fatal shooting in Naples on Monday afternoon.
Patricia Valeriani, 46, shot her husband, Anthony Valeriani, 52, at his home off the Songo School Road. She had filed for divorce in October and went to the house Monday to retrieve some belongings.
Following the shooting, police questioned Valeriani, then released her and drove her to Maine Medical Center for treatment for an undisclosed injury. If police find that she acted in self-defense or in defense of others, Patricia Valeriani will not be charged with any crimes, Lt. Brian McDonough of the state police said late on Monday.
"A lot of work still remains," Steve McCausland, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety, said this morning.
In the coming weeks, Maine State Police and the state Medical Examiner's Office are expected to file reports with the state Attorney General's Office, which will decide whether any charges are warranted.
