AUGUSTA -- The University of Maine at Augusta will cut its budget by approximately $862,000 this academic year, according to President Allyson Hughes Handley.
The $862,000 cut is a drop from previous expectations that UMA would have to cut $1 million from its $32 million budget.
Gov. John Baldacci on Wednesday unveiled plans to curtail nearly $80 million in state government spending this fiscal year. The University of Maine System took an $8.4 million hit, although officials were anticipating a $10.6 million cut from the seven-campus system budget.
UMA is cutting approximately $650,000 as a result of Baldacci's curtailment order. The college is losing $212,000 more due to a loss in the University of Maine System's revenue from investments.
